The SNMP trap protocol
This topic applies to the following products if you are NOT using the Orion Log Viewer to monitor SNMP traps.

SNMP along with the associated Management Information Base (MIB) allow you to take advantage of trap‑directed notification.
In environments with a large number of devices, where each device may have a large number of its own connected objects, requesting information from every object on every device is impractical. To resolve the situation, you can set up the Orion SNMP Trap Server, and each managed device can notify the trap server of any issues by sending a message. The message is also called the trap of the event.
When using SNMPv3 for polling a device and receiving traps from it, confirm that the same authentication type (auth, noauth, or priv) is configured for both polling and traps.
