You can define the part of a monitored network that users can access based on custom properties, and create custom limitations. Custom limitations are added to the list of available limitation types that you can apply on individual user accounts. After you create the limitation, you must edit accounts to use the limitation, and then select how the account is restricted.

Before you start, plan how you want to limit the user access, and create custom properties.

  1. Click Settings > All Settings in the menu bar.

  2. In the Node & Group Management grouping, click Manage account limitations.

  3. Click Add.

  4. Type a name for the limitation.

  5. Select a Custom Property. The fields are populated automatically based on your selection.

  6. Type a description to know what that the limitation is for or who requested it (optional).

  7. Choose a Selection Method. This is the selection format that will appear when you are choosing values for the account limitation in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.

    • Checkboxes: Select one or more values from a list of options.

    • Pattern matching: Use text strings and wildcards to specify the limitation.

Pattern matching is the most powerful selection, but it is also prone to errors when restricting access and impacts performance.

    • Single selection: Select a single value from a list of options.

  8. Click Add.

Your account limitation is added to the table on Manage account limitations. You may now apply the limitation on user accounts to restrict user access to monitored objects in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.
