Monitor DHCP servers
To monitor DHCP servers directly from SolarWinds Observability SaaS, add the server for monitoring using the Add DHCP Server Wizard.
Create a DHCP server
You can configure DHCP monitoring directly from the SolarWinds Observability SaaS console.
-
Click Network > IP Address Management > DHCP Servers tab > Add DHCP Server.
You can also get to the DHCP Server Monitoring wizard using the Add Data button or drop-down near the top of the page.
- Click Add Data > Infrastructure > DHCP Server Monitoring.
- Click Add Data > Network > DHCP Server Monitoring.
-
Choose whether to configure DHCP monitoring on an existing monitored device or to add a new device for DHCP monitoring.
-
If Select an existing monitored device was selected, choose a network device or host that is not already designated as a DHCP server and click Next.
-
If Add new device was selected:
- Click Next.
- Choose whether to use an existing Network Collector or to deploy a new Network Collector and click Next. For help with Network Collectors, see Network Collector and Add DHCP servers and subnets using Network Collector.
- Enter polling details and click Next.
When setting polling details for a new device, they will be added as either a network device or a host, depending on which polling method you select.
- The ICPM and SNMP polling methods add new devices as network devices.
- The WMI polling method adds new devices as hosts.
-
Select the appropriate DHCP monitoring credentials and click Next.
-
Adjust the polling intervals and other scanning details as needed and click Next.
-
Click Submit.
The DHCP server configuration is propagated to the Network Collector and the first scan is initiated. Scopes and subnets should be populated within 15-45 minutes.
Edit a DHCP server
Once DHCP servers are added, you can use the details panel to update the monitoring options, VLAN ID or location.
-
Click Network > IP Address Management > DHCP Servers.
-
Click the vertical ellipsis menu at the end of the DHCP row and select Edit Settings.
On-demand Scans
Instead of waiting for the next scheduled scan, you can initiate a scan outside of the regular scan schedules.
-
Click Network > IP Address Management > DHCP Servers.
-
Click the vertical ellipsis menu at the end of the DHCP row or on the details page and select Scan Now.
Depending on the size of the DHCP server, it could 15-45 minutes for the data to be updated.
