Monitor Juniper Virtual Chassis (Juniper switch stack)

Track the health of individual stack members, monitor the data connections between them, and quickly identify any members experiencing issues. Built-in events and alerts notify you when a member or the connection between members goes down.

Add the switch stack for monitoring as a node. The IP address is always assigned to the master switch (highlighted with a crown icon).

Limitations

  • Juniper switch stacks do not support power or data ring management for the stack ring.
  • Hardware health data availability depends on the Juniper model and its senors
  • Port name resolution requires interfaces to be discovered and monitored

View stack members and rings

When alerted about a switch stack issue, go to the switch stack node details page, and click the switch stack subview.

The subview provides member-specific monitoring with topology maps showing how the data ports are connected, and information to pinpoint switches with issues.

You can quickly see which switch is having issues, locate it by serial number in the stack, and replace it or resolve the issue.

Switch stack events

Events include notifications about the following issues and changes:

  • Master number has changed
  • Member number changed
  • Data ring redundancy has changed
  • Member count has changed
  • Ring failure has changed

Out-of-the-box alerts for switch stacks

Default alerts inform you about the following items and more:

  • Switch stack data ring broken
  • Switch stack master changed
  • Switch stack member number changed
  • Not all out-of-the-box alerts are turned on by default.
