Network Routing Insights: VRF
With Routing Insights, you can monitor how each route and peer relates to its Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) context. VRF awareness shows you:
-
Which VRF a route belongs to, helping you understand whether an issue affects a specific tenant, service, or routing domain.
-
How interfaces and peers relate to that VRF, since routes depend on next hops, peers, and the interfaces that operate within a given VRF.
-
Whether routing problems impact only one VRF or span multiple VRFs, enabling faster scoping of routing or control‑plane issues.
Access VRF information
You can see VRF information in the Routing Insights dashboard and in routing widgets on node details pages.
If you have a SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted license, you can access the Network Insights dashboard. In SolarWinds Observability, click My Dashboards > Routing Insights.
Virtual routing and forwarding (VRF) pollers
You can select the following pollers to collect VRF details, VRF interfaces, and routing tables.
| Poller name | MIBs for VRFs | OIDs required | MIBs for routing table |
|---|---|---|---|
| N.VRFRouting.SNMP.CiscoVrfMib | CISCO-VRF-MIB | 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.711.1.1.1.1.2 | Routing table not polled |
| N.VRFRouting.SNMP.JuniperObsolete | MPLS-VPN-MIB, JUNIPER-VPN-MIB | 1.3.6.1.3.118.1.1.1, 1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.26.1.1.1 |
IP-FORWARD-MIB For SNMPv2c, polling uses community string in format "vrf_name@community_string". |
| N.VRFRouting.SNMP.JuniperStandard | MPLS-L3VPN-STD-MIB, JUNIPER-VPN-MIB | 1.3.6.1.2.1.10.166.11.1.1.1, 1.3.6.1.4.1.2636.3.26.1.1.1 | MPLS-L3VPN-STD-MIB |
| N.VRFRouting.SNMP.MPLSVPNObsolete | MPLS-VPN-MIB | 1.3.6.1.3.118.1.1.1 | MPLS-VPN-MIB |
| N.VRFRouting.SNMP.MPLSVPNStandard | MPLS-L3VPN-STD-MIB | 1.3.6.1.2.1.10.166.11.1.1.1 | MPLS-L3VPN-STD-MIB |
| N.VRFRouting.SNMP.Arista | ARISTA-VRF-MIB | 1.3.6.1.4.1.30065.3.18.1.1.1.4 |
IP-FORWARD-MIB For SNMPv2c, polling uses community string in format "community_string@vrf_name". For SNMPv3, polling uses VRF name as context. |
