Map widget

The Map widget displays a selected network map or a wireless heat map within the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.

You will only see nodes and their connections if you have the permission to see them.

Below wireless heat maps, you can see the wireless signal strength legend and you can also decide whether you want to display clients connected to wireless access points available on the map.

Change the map

The Map widget provides a list of all maps created with the NPM, both network maps and wireless heat maps. Wireless heat maps require Network Performance Monitor.

Click Edit.
Now in the Select map area, select the map.
Click Submit.

Further options available in the resource depend on whether the selected map is a network map or a wireless heat map.

Display clients in wireless heat maps

If you select a wireless heat map and want to see connected clients on the map, select the Show connected wireless clients on the map.

Select a map using a map name format

When you add the Map widget on a group details view, you can specify the map to be displayed using the Map name format macro. Use the drop-down below the Select map box:

Map name format option	What does the map display
Select...	The widget displays the map selected in the Select map box.
${Id}	The Select map box is disabled. The widget takes the group id and searches for a map that has the same name as the group id. If the group id is "1", the widget attempts to display a map called "1".
${Name}	The Select map box is disabled. The widget takes the group name and searches for a map that has the same name as the group. If the group name is "Engineering", the widget attempts to display a map called "Engineering".
${Caption}	The Select map box is disabled. The widget takes the group caption and searches for a map that has the same name as the group caption. If the group caption is "Austin Engineers", the widget attempts to display a map called "Austin Engineers".
Group ${Id}	The Select map box is disabled. The widget takes the group id and searches for a map that is called "Group" and the group id. If the group id is "1", the widget attempts to display a map called "Group 1".
Group ${Name}	The Select map box is disabled. The widget takes the group name and searches for a map that is called "Group" and the group name. If the group name is "Engineering", the widget attempts to display a map called "Group Engineering".
Group ${Caption}	The Select map box is disabled. The widget takes the group caption and searches for a map that is called "Group" and the group caption. If the group caption is "Austin Engineers", the widget attempts to display a map called "Group Austin Engineers".

Customize the widget

Click Edit, specify the options, and submit your changes.

Title

Specify the title of the widget.

Subtitle

Specify the subtitle of the widget.

Select map

Select the map to display in the widget.

Zoom 10% to 250%

Specify the scaling factor of the map displayed in the widget.

Show color legend on the map

Select the box to display the color legend on your map.

Show Network Atlas Download Link

Select the box to provide a download link in the widget so that users can download and run the Network Atlas program to edit the maps.

Allowing users to download and run Network Atlas may be a security risk because Network Atlas can reveal the existence of nodes users may not have permission to see.

This option can be enabled only for network maps.

Display cached map while the new map is being loaded

Select the box if you want to display the cached map when a new map is being regenerated.

Advanced feature: Map Tooltips

Specify a tooltip text displayed when users hover over certain map objects.

Click Customize map tooltips, and provide a combination of alert variables and custom properties for appropriate entity types.

Example:
