Manage users' access to ETS for the Web tools
After you activate a license key for ETS for the Web, you can specify which users can access ETS for the Web, and which tools they can access.
Access the User License Management page
-
Log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console as an administrator.
-
Click Settings > All Settings. Then, under Product Specific Settings, click Toolset Settings.
-
Click Toolset User Licenses.
Grant access to ETS for the Web
To enable a user to access Engineer's Toolset for the Web, you need to assign one of the available seat licenses contained in your Engineer's Toolset for the Web license.
-
Select a user.
-
Click Enable.
One of the seats is assigned to the user, and the number of available seats decreases by one. By default, the user has access to all tools.
Grant access for members of a group account
An administrator can create an account in the SolarWinds Platform for an entire active directory group, and the members of that group can log in.
You cannot grant access to ETS for the Web tools to a group. You must assign seats to individual users. However, an individual user is not listed on the User License Management page until after that user has logged in to the SolarWinds Platform. If you do not see a group member listed, make sure that user has logged in at least once.
Limit a user's access to tools
You can decide what tools a user can access. You can also hide or show the Toolset tab in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console or enable Toolset-specific items next to SolarWinds Platform nodes for individual users.
- Select a user and click Edit permissions.
Make sure ETS for the Web is enabled for the selected user. The permissions apply only to users who have an ETS for the Web seat allocated to them.
- Deselect the tools that you do not want the user to access.
- If you do not want the user to see the Toolset tab, select None in the Summary View list drop-down.
- If you do no want the user to be able to launch the tools from a context menu of SolarWinds Platform nodes and from specific resources on the SolarWinds Platform node detail views, open the Engineer's Toolset on the SolarWinds Platform Web Integration menu, and select Disabled.
- Click Submit.
Move license seats
Each ETS for the Web license key is issued for a certain number of seats. Each seat can be assigned to one user only. You can change users who are allowed to use ETS for the Web by disabling an ETS for the Web license for one user and assigning that seat to another user.
If you need more seats than in your current license, please contact your sales representative or SolarWinds.
- Select a user with an enabled seat, and click Disable.
Then click Yes at the confirmation prompt.
The user no longer has access to the Toolset tab or the Toolset context menu for their nodes. Their seat is available for a new assignment.
- Select a different user, and click Enable.
Add license seats
You can see the number of available and already allocated seats above the users table on the User License Management for Toolset page.
If free seats are available in the license you have activated, you can use them and enable users for Engineer's Toolset on the Web.
Add or remove available seats
If the number of license seats is different from the number reflected in your User License Management for Toolset view, you must re-activate your license key, select the number of seats, and add them.
- Start the License Manager in your SolarWinds Platform program folder.
- Deactivate your current license.
- Re-activate the license using your license key.
- Select the number of seats and add them.
If you log in to the User License Management for Toolset view, the number of available seats should be correct now.
Add seats to your license
If you need more seats than are available in your license, you need to purchase a new license, and then activate the new license key in the License Manager.
The extra seats will be added to available seats in the User License Management for Toolset page.
Troubleshoot license issues
The user is not listed in the User License Management for Toolset table.
Was the user granted access to the SolarWinds Platform through a group account? If so, make sure the user has logged in. For more information, see Group accounts.
