RADIUS User Experience Monitor
This SAM component monitor uses synthetic transactions to track how long it takes to perform basic user authentication using the Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) protocol
Each synthetic transaction does the following:
- Connects to a target system.
- Logs in with RADIUS credentials and a secret key.
- Validates a response from the target system.
- Measures the response time.
Prerequisites
The SolarWinds Platform can access the target RADIUS system.
The SolarWinds Platform server and target system support Password Authentication Protocol (PAP) authentication. If necessary, create a RADIUS policy on the SolarWinds Platform server.
Credentials
Provide RADIUS credentials, including secret key.
Polling Method
The SolarWinds Platform agent for Windows polling method is supported for this component monitor. The SolarWinds Platform agent for Linux is not supported, nor is polling via SolarWinds Platform Remote Collectors.
Statistic
This component monitor does not compute a statistic.
Field descriptions
Description
A default description of the monitor. To override the default description, add to or replace existing text. Changes are automatically saved. The variable to access this field is ${UserDescription}
.
Customize descriptions to specify what will be monitored so related alerts and notifications are more meaningful later.
Enable Component
Determines whether the component is enabled. Disabling the component leaves it in the application in a deactivated state not influencing either SolarWinds SAM application availability or status.
Credential for Monitoring
Click a credential in the list, or use the <Inherit credential from node> option. If the credential you need is not in the credentials list, add it in the SAM Credentials Library.
Authentication Port Number
The RADIUS protocol authentication port. The default value is 1812. Cisco devices may require port 1645.
Accounting Port Number
The RADIUS protocol accounting port. The default value is 1813. Cisco devices may require port 1646.
Secret Key
The RADIUS protocol shared key.
Response Time Threshold
Set warning and critical threshold conditions based on the response time. The response time is the time in milliseconds it takes SolarWinds SAM to determine that a component is not Down and to retrieve any statistical data.
User Notes
Add notes for easy reference. You can access this field by using the variable, ${UserNotes}
.
