Synchronize the WSUS server with the Microsoft Updates website

Run the Synchronize Server task on the WSUS Server to synchronize the server with the Microsoft Updates website. The task schedules a job that contacts the website, retrieves the latest Microsoft operating system updates, and stores the updates on the WSUS server.

For example, you need to apply the latest Windows operating system updates to the managed systems. Run the Synchronized Server task and schedule the WSUS server to synchronize with the Microsoft Updates site each day. After Microsoft publishes an operating system update, publish and install the update to the managed systems.

If you receive an error when you synchronize the WSUS server, see this KB article (error 503) and this KB article (error 404) for troubleshooting.
