Common Patch Manager reports

Patch Manager uses inventory tasks to pull census data from the WSUS servers and managed systems. This data is displayed in the Patch Manager Administrator Console, SolarWinds Platform Web Console (for SolarWinds Platform integrations), and your reports (such as a WSUS inventory report).

Patch Manager includes several types of reports that provide details about the software installed on your managed computers. For example, you can generate a third party software report that lists the third party software products installed on each managed computer. These reports are templates you can customize and rename for your compliance audits.

All reports are located in the Administration and Reporting > Reporting menu.

The following sections provide a partial list of Patch Manager reports you can use to meet your compliance requirements. You can create a custom report, schedule the report to run at a specific time, and then receive the report by email in a specific format (such as a Microsoft Excel or CSV file). These reports use Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) to query the MSI System Control Manager Service (MSIService.exe) on your managed computers and do not require an agent.

To collect the latest information about your deployment, inventory your WSUS server and managed systems before you generate a report.

Windows Server Update Services

The following reports provide information about update packages installed on managed systems by the WSUS server. These reports includes the patching level and percentages of installed and failed patches. The WSUS Inventory task updates this information.

Report Name Description
Computers with approved
update percentages
Reports the percentage of systems running approved updates.
Percent Failed Reports the percentage of update packages that failed to install during the update.
Percent Installed Reports the percentage of update packages that installed during the update.
Percent Not Installed Reports the percentage of uninstalled update packages.
Update Approvals Reports the update title, computer group name, release date, and administrator for each approved update.

Windows Server Update Services Analytics

The following reports provide analytics about update packages installed on managed systems by the WSUS server.

Report Name Description
Computer Update Status

Reports all Microsoft and third-party updates to each managed system and whether they are approved, installed, or failed. This report does not explain why an update failed.

Computer Update Status - Locally Published Updates Reports the third-party updates installed by WSUS. The report includes statuses such as install success, failure, approved, and not approved.
Computer Update Status Approved Updates Reports the approved upgrade packages and whether they are installed or not installed.
Computer Update Status Approved Updates Not Installed

Reports the approved upgrade packages that were not installed. This report does not state whether the upgrade was applicable for each system.

Configuration Management reports

The following reports provide information about your Patch Manager configuration within your corporate enterprise. These reports includes application installs (not Microsoft patches) and other machine-level census data (such as networking statistics, operating system information, files and registry). The Managed Computers Inventory populates this data in the Patch Manager Database.

Report Name Description
Software installed counts Reports the number of software applications installed on your client systems.
Installed Programs and Feature Basic Reports all software applications installed on the client systems. You can sort by Display Name to identify outdated software versions.
Installed Programs and Feature Basic (MS Products Omitted) Reports all third-party software applications and versions on the client systems.

Task History reports

The following reports provide information about tasks performed in the application.

Report Name Description
Task History Reports all updates pushed to the client systems. You can sort by Operation to view specific update tasks.

Patch Manager reports in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console

Beginning in 2.1.7, you can generate Patch Manager reports in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console. This feature requires an integrated configuration with the SolarWinds Platform.
