Install or Upgrade WPM

Review the WPM release notes and system requirements before installing or upgrading WPM.

SolarWinds strongly recommends that you install the SolarWinds Platform on a server that is neither public, nor internet-facing. To learn about best practices for configuring your SolarWinds Platform installation securely, see Secure Configuration for the SolarWinds Platform.

FIPS 140-2 support

It's important to understand that WPM is not a fully FIPS-compliant product because some of its components, namely WPM Recorder and WPM Browser, are not not FIPS compliant by design. These components are based on the Chromium engine, which is not FIPS compliant.

If FIPS compliance is critical to your business, you have the option of deactivating (as well as activating) WPM in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console License Manager. In addition, both the WPM Recorder installer and the WPM Player installer include steps that inform you that they are not fully FIPS-compliant products. The installers require your consent to proceed with installation. You can install or uninstall WPM Recorder or WPM Player in an environment with FIPS mode enabled. For more information, see this topic about FIPS 140-2 support.

Upgrade WPM

If you are on a version earlier than WPM 2020.2.6, first upgrade to 2020.2.6 and then upgrade to 2024.4.1.

You can upgrade WPM directly from the SolarWinds Platform Web Console (Settings > My Deployment). Downloading the SolarWinds Installer is no longer necessary.

After upgrading WPM on the SolarWinds Platform server, be sure to upgrade any WPM Recorders and WPM Players installed on remote systems. See Deploy WPM to remote systems in the WPM Getting Started Guide.

Migrate WPM

  • Do you need to move your WPM polling engines or database to a different server? See the Migration Guide. Be sure to update SEUM agents to point to the new EngineIDs, as described here.
