For a storage array to communicate with SRM, it is sometimes necessary for a provider to be installed. Depending on the vendor and the array model, the provider may be part of the management software provided with the array (Type 1 below) or a separate software application hosted from a server external to the array (Type 2) . In some cases the provider is already embedded on the storage array (Type 3). The following graphic demonstrates these three cases:
