Monitoring your applications and environment is a key capability of Hybrid Cloud Observability and is also available in a standalone module, Server & Application Monitor (SAM). Hybrid Cloud Observability and SAM are built on the self-hosted SolarWinds Platform.

Top 10 Nonclustered Indexes by Fragmentation

A non-clustered index is one in which the data rows are not sorted and stored in order based on their non-clustered keys. This SAM widget displays the non-clustered indexes with the highest level of fragmentation. If the Warning or Critical thresholds is breached, the color of the bar chart changes from green to yellow or red, respectively.

  • Table Name: Displays the name of the listed table.
  • Index Name: Displays the name listed index.
  • Fragmentation: Numerically and graphically displays the percentage of fragmentation of the listed index.

The performance counter, Top Indexes for Database, is used to provide metrics for this widget. This counter is not listed in the widget; however, the thresholds can be changed.

You may need to log in with an administrator account to perform these actions.

Change the thresholds for the Top Indexes for Database performance counter

  1. In the Database Details view, locate the Database Details widget and click Edit in the Management field.
  2. Locate the Top Indexes for Database performance counter and click [+] to expand the counter and reveal the counter details.

  3. Click Override Template and adjust the thresholds to suit your needs.
  4. When done, click Submit.

Change the number of tables displayed in this widget, change values in two locations

  1. In the widget, click Edit, then change the value for the field: Maximum Number of Records to Display, and then click Submit.
  2. Edit the application or the template that the application is based on. To edit the template which affect applications based on it:
  3. Click Settings > All Settings > SAM Settings > Manage Templates.
  4. Check the AppInsight for SQL application and click Edit in the toolbar.
  5. Expand the Top Indexes for Database component monitor by clicking [+].
  6. Change the value for the field, Number of Records to Retrieve and then click Submit.

  7. To edit the individual application:
    1. Click My dashboards > Applications.
    2. From the All Applications resource, click an AppInsight for SQL application to select it.
    3. From the Application Details resource, click Edit Application Monitor.
    4. Expand the Top Indexes for Database component monitor by clicking [+].
    5. Click Override Template corresponding to the row, Number of Records to Retrieve.
    6. Change the value for the field, Number of Records to Retrieve and then click Submit.
