Monitoring your applications and environment is a key capability of Hybrid Cloud Observability and is also available in a standalone module, Server & Application Monitor (SAM). Hybrid Cloud Observability and SAM are built on the self-hosted SolarWinds Platform.

Add new application monitors

You can use the Add New Application Monitors page to create application monitors based on existing templates. SAM walks you through the process to add the applications monitors to nodes, set credentials, and test connections.

  1. Click Settings > All Settings > SAM Settings.
  2. In the Getting Started with SAM group, click Manually Assign Application Monitors.

  3. On the Add New Application Monitors page, select a template designed for the application you want to monitor. You can use the Show only drop-down list to filter through the options.

    Click a template name to get a quick look at the included component monitors and description.

  4. Click Next to assign the application monitor template to one or more nodes. You can filter through the list of nodes through Group By or search. To add, select a node and click the green arrow to add them to the list.
  5. Click Next to set any required credentials and test the connection.

  6. Click Assign Application Monitors to assign the template to the selected nodes.

    If components in an application monitor each need separate credentials, you cannot configure those details on the Add New Application Monitors page. Instead, edit the application monitor after creating it, and configure the credentials of each component separately.
