Requirements for monitoring VMs
Installations on VMware Virtual Machines and Microsoft Virtual Servers follow the minimum configuration requirements are met for each virtual machine.
You must maintain your SQL Server database on a separate, physical drive.
Requirement |
Description |
---|---|
SNMP |
SNMP must be enabled on all ESXi and ESX servers. For more information, consult your ESX or ESXi server vendor documentation. |
Virtualization software |
ESXi and ESX Server version 4.1 or later VMware vSphere version 4.1 or later Microsoft Hyper-V Server versions 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2 |
VMware tools |
VMware Tools must be installed on all virtual machines you want to monitor. If your virtual machines are on monitored ESXi and ESX servers, VMware Tools are not a requirement but provide access to additional information, such as IP addresses. |
For more information about requirements, see VIM Minimum Requirements in the SolarWinds Virtual Manager documentation.
The following methods are used by NPM to monitor VMware ESX Servers and their component features.
