Select hardware health poller for Aruba devices

This topic applies only to the following products:

NAM — NPM — NTA — SAM — SRM

For polling hardware health data from Aruba devices, you can use the following pollers:

  • Aruba Wired Sensors – uses ArubaWired MIBs

  • Generic Entity Data Sensors – uses ENTITY-MIB and ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB

These pollers use different SNMP MIBs, and so the scope of collected data varies. You can configure which poller should be used for polling hardware health information by default.

Configure the default poller globally

  1. Log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console as an administrator.

  2. Click Settings > All Settings in the menu bar.

  3. In the Thresholds & Polling grouping, click Polling Settings.

  4. Scroll down to the Hardware Health Polling section.

  5. In Enable ArubaWired Poller, set the default poller:

    • Select the box to use the ArubaWired poller.

    • Clear the box to use the Generic Entity Data Sensor poller.

    • New installations default to the ArubaWired poller.

  6. Submit your changes.

The selected poller is set as the default. To use the selected poller, assign it to Aruba devices.

Configure the default poller for specific nodes

Use per-node settings to override the global configuration.

  1. Open the Node Details view, and click Edit Node in the Management resource.

  2. Scroll down to the Hardware Health Polling section.

  3. In the Enable ArubaWired Poller drop-down, select the poller to use:

    • Use global settings - applies the global configuration.

      • If the Enable ArubaWired Poller box is selected, the device uses the ArubaWired poller.

      • If the Enable ArubaWired Poller box is cleared, the Generic Entity Data Sensors is used.

    • Disabled - use the Generic Entity Data Sensors poller.

    • Enabled - use the ArubaWired poller.

  4. Click Submit.

You can now use the selected poller for the devices. To poll hardware health using the selected poller, assign it to Aruba devices.

Assign the poller to devices

Changing the global or per-node polling setting does not automatically assign the required hardware health poller to monitored devices.

To apply the selected poller, update the default settings, and then run List Resources or Network Discovery.

Assign the poller to multiple devices using Network Discovery

  1. In the SolarWinds Platform Web Console, click Settings > Discovery Central.

  2. Click Discover My Network, and then create or re-run a discovery for Aruba devices. The global poller you configured is automatically assigned to the discovered devices.

  3. Import the results.

    Hardware health statistics for Aruba devices will now use the selected poller.

Assign the poller to a specific node

  1. Open the Node Details view, and click List Resources in the Management resource.

  2. Find Hardware Health Polling and select the correct poller.

  3. Submit your changes.

    Hardware health statistics for the selected Aruba device will now use the selected poller.
