Configure maintenance schedules for groups

During maintenance, nodes in your groups might be Down for short periods of time. To prevent alert messages, and to ensure that your SolarWinds Platform product collects the data you need, you can place the groups to Maintenance Mode. For details on node maintenance, see Suspend data collection or alerts for nodes in Maintenance Mode.

Maintenance options for groups

  • Unmanaging: Stops data collection during the maintenance window for the group's members for which SolarWinds Platform collects data.

  • Muting: Pauses alerts for the selected group (including its members) but continues polling the devices.

  • Setting a maintenance schedule: Stops collecting data or mutes alerts for group members within a specified time period.

Limitations

  • New group members added when a maintenance is running are not affected by the maintenance.

  • Schedule scope is subject to limitations - if you assign a maintenance schedule to a group, only group members you are allowed to see are affected by the maintenance.

  • By default, only the first 5 levels in the group tree are affected by maintenance. This is to prevent performance issues.

The group’s root node takes up the first level, so it’s counted for muting but not for unmanaging. Unmanaging works with one level less than the set depth. If your groups go deeper than 5 levels, consider adjusting the RecursiveMaxDepth setting in advanced settings.

Customize the group depth for maintenance

    1. Log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console as an administrator and go to Advanced Configuration. Adjust the SolarWinds Platform Web Console URL as follows: [hostname]/Orion/Admin/advancedconfiguration/global.aspx
    2. Search for RecursiveMaxDepth.

    3. Adjust the value for RecursiveMaxDepth and save your settings.

Set maintenance for groups

  1. Click Settings > All Settings > Manage Groups.

  2. Select the groups, then click Maintenance Mode > Schedule.

  3. Under Maintenance frequency, select Recurring and click Assign Schedules.

  4. Select the schedule you want to assign and click Schedule.
