Optimize feature usage

Review the Feature Adoption page to discover how to get the most value from your license. SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted regularly checks which features you are already using and suggests ways to improve your monitoring setup.

Access the Feature Adoption page

Click Settings > My Deployment > Feature Adoption. Review what features you are already using, what other options you have, and configuration steps to unlock more available monitoring options.

Review suggestions by category

Suggestions are grouped into categories to help you focus on specific areas.

• Platform - Dependencies, groups, integrations, maps,
• System - Asset inventory or system configuration
• Cloud - Cloud monitoring
• Networking - Device configuration, flow monitoring
• Hidden features - Tests you've hidden from the view
• Favorites - Tests you've bookmarked

Use filters to narrow down suggestions to the monitoring area you want to optimize.

Optimize a feature usage

1. Expand a feature name to find out what other monitoring options the feature provides.

2. Review the suggestion on what you need to do to fully use the feature.

3. Review whether the feature is already part of your license or whether it consumes a license.

4. Review documentation or video tutorials on how to use the feature.

5. Click the Configuration link to go straight to the page where you can configure the additional monitoring.

Hide tests

If the suggestion is not relevant for you, you can hide it.

Turn off the Visibility toggle. The test will no longer appear in the table but it will continue to run.

To show hidden tests, click the Include Hidden Features button above the table. Hidden tests appear in the table.

To exclude hidden features, click the Exclude Hidden features button above the table. Hidden tests disappear from the table.

Add a test to Favorites

To bookmark a test:

1. Click the star icon next to the test.

2. Use Filters > Preferences > Favorites to quickly find it.

Bookmarked tests appear in the table for easy access.

Configure how often the checks for feature adoption run

By default, SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted runs feature adoption tests 15 minutes after the BusinessLayer starts, and then every 8 hours.

To change the interval:

1. Go to Advanced settings and search for "FeatureAdoption.Settings" on the Global tab.

   To access advanced settings, append the following to the hostname/IP address of your SolarWinds Platform Web Console in the browser: /Orion/Admin/AdvancedConfiguration/Global.aspx

2. In the TestInterval field, enter the interval in hours, and save your settings.

   Feature adoption tests frequency changes according to your settings.
