Monitor cloud costs

View costs incurred with your provider on a detailed view with flexible filtering across your subscriptions, services, and resources.

Before you begin

  • Ensure required permissions are configured for your cloud account.
    • For GCP, configure BigQuery dataset and enable cloud billing export to BigQuery.
  • Ensure that cost monitoring is enabled for the account.

Supported providers

  • AWS
  • Azure
  • GCP

License

  • Requires a SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted license.

GCP-specific settings

Before you can monitor GCP costs in the web console, configure the following items:

  1. In the GCP console, select a BigQuery Dataset. See Create datasets in Google documentation.

  2. In the GCP console, enable Cloud Billing Export to BigQuery. See Export Cloud Billing data to BigQuery in Google documentation.

Enable cost monitoring for your account

Cost monitoring is enabled by default. If not, you can enable it manually.

  1. In SolarWinds Platform Web Console, click Settings > Cloud Discovery. This opens the Manage Cloud Accounts page.

  2. Select the account where you want to monitor costs and click Edit Properties. The Edit Cloud Account wizard opens.

  3. Go to the Monitored resources screen and ensure that toggle for cloud cost monitoring is enabled.

  4. Complete the wizard. Costs for the selected account will now be monitored.

View cost information on cloud views

In the SolarWinds Platform Web Console menu bar, go to My Dashboards > Cloud > New Cloud Summary and scroll down to the Cloud Costs widget to get an overview of all cloud costs.

Costs widgets are also available on cloud details views:

  • Cloud Costs on Overview show costs per provider (divided by individual cloud entities)

  • Individual tabs show costs per the relevant area (Network, Storage, Compute, or Database)

View cost details on provider-based costs views

To get an overview of costs for individual cloud providers, open the respective Costs view from My Dashboards:

  • My Dashboards > Cloud > AWS Costs

  • My Dashboards > Cloud > Azure Costs

  • My Dashboards > Cloud > GCP Costs

The default view shows monthly costs. To switch to yearly costs, open the Year tab.

The widgets show costs details:

  • Costs per individual month (month to date, last month, max month)

  • Costs by service type

  • Costs by service

  • Daily costs

  • Accumulated daily costs

  • Top 5 services by costs

  • Costs by region (if applicable)
