Troubleshoot virtual environments

You need administrator privileges to change virtual environment settings.

My virtual environment is not polled correctly

Make sure credentials are set properly.

I want to change when virtual objects with issues are highlighted in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console

If a metric, such as CPU or memory usage, exceeds a certain level on a device, the device is highlighted in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console. You can configure warning and critical thresholds for statistics collected for VMware objects either globally or for individual objects.

Global thresholds

  1. Click Settings > All Settings.
  2. In the Thresholds & Polling grouping, click Virtualization Thresholds.
  3. Adjust the thresholds, and click Submit.

Device-specific thresholds

  1. Click Settings > All Settings.
  2. In the Node & Group Management grouping, click Manage Virtual Devices, and click the Thresholds tab.
  3. Select a VMware object, click Edit Thresholds, and change the thresholds.

I am not receiving notifications about my virtual infrastructure

Confirm that the alerts are on.

  1. In the SolarWinds Platform Web Console, click Alerts & Activity > Alerts.
  2. Click Manage Alerts in the top-right corner of the page.
  3. Group alerts by Object Type.
  4. View the alerts for Virtual Cluster, Virtual Datastore, Virtual Host, and Virtual Machine. Make sure that the alerts you want to use are marked as On.

I want to have a pdf report about my virtual environment

Create a customized report based on a virtualization resource.

  1. In the SolarWinds Platform Web Console, click Reports > All Reports.
  2. Group resources by Report Category, and select Historical Virtualization Reports or Historical VMware ESX Reports.
  3. Select a report, click Duplicate & Edit, and complete the new report. For more information, see Create a web-based report in the SolarWinds Platform.

I want to temporarily stop monitoring a virtual server

  1. Click Settings > All Settings.
  2. In the Node & Group Management grouping, click Manage Virtual Devices.
  3. Go to the Hyper-V or VMware tab.
  4. Select the device or devices for which you want to stop collecting statistics, and click Disable Polling.

The devices will not be monitored. To start monitoring the devices again, click Enable Polling.
