Account types

This topic applies to all SolarWinds Platform products.

The SolarWinds Platform Web Console recognizes the following user account types:

Orion individual account

Select this option to create an account for a single user of the SolarWinds Platform Web Console. These accounts are independent of any local or Active Directory account or group. See Create users.

Windows individual account

Select this option for single web console user accounts that correspond with previously configured local or Active Directory user account. See Create users based on existing AD or local domain accounts.

Windows group account

Select this option for previously configured local or Active Directory group accounts. Select this option if you want to provide access to users on the basis of their membership in a defined local or Active Directory group. See Create users based on existing AD or local domain accounts.

SAML individual account

Select this option to create an account for a single user who will log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console using Okta or Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) credentials.

Starting with Orion Platform 2018.4, you can use the SAML v2 single sign-on protocol to log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console. Using SAML v2 requires further configuration both of the Identity Provider and the SolarWinds Platform Web Console.

SAML group account

Select this option to create a group account to log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console using Okta or Active Directory FS credentials. See Authenticate users with SAML v2.

This option is available starting with Orion Platform 2018.4 and requires further configuration.
