Configure MFA/TOTP for Synthetic transactions

This topic explains how you can add a Time-based one-time password (TOTP) to a Synthetic transaction for applications that are protected by multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Prerequisites

To add an authenticator secret key that will be used in your Synthetic transaction, you need the following prerequisites.

  • An application where you have MFA configured

  • An authenticator secret key for your application configured with MFA

  • An external authenticator app (like Google authenticator or Microsoft authenticator) to verify the TOTP setup

Take note of your secret key used in your authenticator. The same secret will be used in SolarWinds Observability.

Save your authenticator secret key in SolarWinds Observability

  1. Click Settings > Credentials > Digital Experience - Synthetic Secrets.

  2. Click Add Credential.

  3. Select the MFA/TOTP credential type.

  4. Enter an easily identifiable name for your credential, for example "SolarWinds Test TOTP".

  5. Enter the authenticator secret key used in your configured MFA application in the Secret field.

The authenticator secret key that you save in SolarWinds Observability must be the same as the authenticator secret that you used to configure your MFA application.

Note: The authenticator secret key is not the 6 digit verification code displayed in your authenticator app.

  6. Click Save.
