Documentation forSolarWinds Observability SaaS

GitHub integration

GitHub integration connects SolarWinds Observability SaaS with your GitHub repositories, allowing SolarWinds Observability SaaS to take actions, such as creating branches or pull requests.

The following GitHub tiers are supported:

  • Free
  • Pro
  • Team
  • Enterprise Cloud (hosted on GitHub)

GitHub Enterprise Server and other self-hosted GitHub deployments (including private enterprise hosts) are not supported, as GitHub integration requires a separate enablement or a self-hostable app model in these environments.

Permissions

SolarWinds Observability SaaS requires the following repository permissions:

  • Contents: Read/Write (used for HTTP-based Git operations and committing changes to a branch).

  • Pull requests: Write (used to open pull requests and interact with pull-request-related operations).

Exact permissions requested by SolarWinds Observability SaaS are also displayed in GitHub during setup.

If the GitHub integration permissions are changed in SolarWinds Observability SaaS, the organization owner receives an approval request in GitHub. If the owner does not approve the changes, the setup continues operating with previously approved permissions.

Integrate SolarWinds Observability SaaS with your GitHub account or organization

GitHub integration is configured through SolarWinds Observability SaaS. It cannot be configured through the GitHub Marketplace listing.

  1. In SolarWinds Observability SaaS, click Settings > GitHub > Integrations.

  2. Click Add GitHub. You are redirected to GitHub.

  3. Select the personal account or organization you want to integrate.

  4. Select specific repositories or All repositories, review permissions, and click Install or Request, depending on the organization policy.

If an integration request is required, GitHub sends the request to an organization owner for approval.

After approval, the integration appears as active in SolarWinds Observability SaaS.

  2. Click Manage GitHub in the upper right.

Troubleshoot GitHub integration issues

Integration request is displayed as pending, even though it was rejected

If an organization admin rejects the request, the integration doesn't become active, but the request is still displayed as pending in SolarWinds Observability.

To resolve the issue, remove the pending integration in SolarWinds Observability in Settings > GitHub > Integrations. Cleanup is required in SolarWinds Observability even if the integration request is removed in GitHub.

The GitHub integration is not active in SolarWinds Observability SaaS

  1. Confirm the integration is approved by the organization owner or admin. Some organizations require approval.

  2. If necessary, remove the integration in GitHub through Settings > Installed GitHub Apps, and restart setup from SolarWinds Observability SaaS.
