Understanding SolarWinds Observability API polling

SolarWinds Observability SaaS API Monitors, also known as "API pollers," are designed to check the availability, metrics, and other performance indicators of a target API endpoint. When a SolarWinds Observability API poller sends an HTTP request, it includes a User-Agent header that identifies the polling client. This helps with monitoring, troubleshooting, and compatibility with certain APIs.

Why Am I Seeing This?

You are receiving HTTP requests from our SolarWinds Observability platform, because one of our customers has configured your public API endpoint to be polled for data.

These requests are automated. They are used to collect data that our customer has authorized and provided access to.

Request Characteristics and Behavior

The User-Agent string typically includes the following, which helps users to distinguish poller requests from unrelated traffic:

Frequency: Defined by the customer (default is every 2–10 minutes, configurable).

HttpMethod: GET

Headers: User-Agent: SolarWindsCloudApiMonitor/1.0 (+https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/observability/content/intro/api-pollers.htm)

Data Privacy

Only the customer who set up the API poller has access to the response data.
