Add a DNS check

Check the functionality of your DNS server with SolarWinds Observability.

  1. In SolarWinds Observability SaaS, click Add Data at the top.
  2. In the Add Data dialog Intro, click Monitor my website.

  3. Click DNS.

  4. Enter an identifying name for your DNS check.

  5. Enter the domain that you want to check.

  6. Enter the domain authoritative DNS server that you want to use.

  7. Enter the expected IP response. The expected response should be IPv4 or IPv6 from the A or AAAA DNS record from the domain. For example 209.62.8.16.

  8. Click Add Tags to add any tags to your Page Speed check. Enter a tag key and value, and then click Add Tag. Repeat this step as necessary for any tags you want to add. Click Next.

    The Add tags step is optional.

  9. Select a location category to test from: Regions, Countries, or Cities.

  10. Select the DNS check location(s).

  11. Select the test interval.

  12. Select the Outage Configuration.

    1. Select Default to use the default outage settings. In the default outage settings, the URI is considered down if all test locations are down for 2 consecutive test intervals.

    2. Click Custom to configure custom outage settings.

    The Outage Configuration step is optional. If you do not choose a custom outage configuration, the default configuration is used.

  13. Click Next.

  14. Review the test summary. Click Add URI.
