Documentation forNetwork Configuration Manager
Managing network configurations is a key capability of SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted (formerly Hybrid Cloud Observability) and is available in the Advanced edition. Network Configuration Manager (NCM) is also available in a standalone module.

Uninstall NCM

You can uninstall individual Orion Platform modules, such as NCM 2020.2.6 and earlier. You cannot uninstall SolarWinds Platform products, such as NCM 2022.3 and later.

Complete the following steps to remove only NCM 2020.2.6 and earlier.

To uninstall your entire SolarWinds Platform deployment, see Uninstall all SolarWinds Platform products from a server and prepare for reinstall.

Before you start

Before you uninstall the product, complete the following tasks:

  • Back up the existing SolarWinds Platform database.

If the SolarWinds Platform database is on a VM, create a snapshot of the VM.

If you need help with backups, see your database vendor documentation.

If you'd like to use SolarWinds Backup, click here for information.

  • Back up your product folders. You might have customizations in these folders specific to your installation.

Remove NCM

  1. Remove product licenses:
    1. In the SolarWinds Platform Web Console, select Settings > All Settings.
    2. Under Details, click License Manager.
    3. In the web-based License Manager, select the product license to remove.

    4. Click Deactivate. This removes the license activation and server assignment.

With the license deactivated, it is parked, or available but unused.

  2. Stop all SolarWinds Platform services:

    1. Log in to the SolarWinds Platform server.

    2. Open the SolarWinds Platform Service Manager. (Click Start > All Programs> SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.)

    3. Click Shutdown Everything.

  3. Remove NCM:

    1. Open the Windows Control Panel, and choose Uninstall or change a program.

    2. Right-click SolarWinds Orion Network Configuration Manager, and choose Uninstall.

The SolarWinds Configuration Wizard opens when the uninstallation is complete. The Configuration Wizard runs to verify other elements of your SolarWinds Platform deployment and make repairs if needed.

  4. On the Welcome panel of the Configuration Wizard, select all components and click Next.

  5. Complete the wizard. Accept the default values for your existing database and website settings. On the Service Settings panel, leave all services checked.
  6. Delete or rename the following files or folders if they are present. If you installed to a different drive, use that drive instead of C:\.

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM.AlertActions8
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SolarWinds.NCM.RTNForwarder
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SolarWinds.NCM.RTNForwarder.exe.config
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Modules\NCM
  7. Remove NCM-related registry keys.

These steps affect your Registry settings. SolarWinds recommends backing up your Registry before making any changes. For assistance, contact Support.

    1. Open a Command Prompt on the SolarWinds Platform server.

    2. Type regedit, and press Enter.

    3. Expand Hkey_Local_Machine > Software > Wow6432Node.

    4. Delete the following folders:

      • Wow6432Node > SolarWinds > Orion > NCM
      • Wow6432Nodee > SolarWinds.Nete > Configuration Management
  8. Restart the server.
