Managing network configurations is a key capability of Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and is also available in a standalone module, Network Configuration Manager (NCM). Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and NCM are built on the self-hosted SolarWinds Platform.

Manage Palo Alto device templates after upgrading to NCM 7.9 or later

NCM 7.9 includes a new device template named PaloAlto, which supports Palo Alto devices running OS 7.x and OS 8.x. The existing device template (PaloAlto5050) is still available.

The new PaloAlto device template:

  • Supports uploading and downloading binary Device State configs.
  • Supports uploading and downloading configs in XML format.

What happens during the upgrade?

When you upgrade from NCM 7.8 or earlier to NCM 7.9 or later, auto-detection is turned on for the new Palo Alto device template, and turned off for the legacy PaloAlto5050 template.

However, to avoid affecting existing functionality, your existing Palo Alto devices that use the legacy PaloAlto5050 device template will not be assigned to the new template automatically. If the Auto Determine option is selected for an existing Palo Alto device, the upgrader changes the selection from Auto Determine to the legacy PaloAlto5050 template. Existing Palo Alto devices will continue to use the legacy template unless you select a different template.

How do I assign the new PaloAlto device template to my existing Palo Alto devices?

To assign the new PaloAlto device template to existing Palo Alto devices, edit the node details:

  1. Open the Node Details for a Palo Alto device.
  2. In the Management widget, click Edit Node.
  3. On the Edit Properties page, scroll down to the NCM Properties section.
  4. In the Device Template drop-down, select the PaloAlto device template (or select Auto Determine).
