Manage Microsoft System Center Operation Manager with Mobile Admin

This section provides information about how to use the Mobile Admin Client to manage the Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) 2007 or 2012. Please note that in order to manage Operations Manager services with Mobile Admin, you must install extra tools on your Mobile Admin server host.

All procedures in this chapter assume that you are logged in to Mobile Admin and that you have selected an Operations Manager server to manage from your hosts list.

Mobile Admin server requirements

You must install one of the following to manage the Microsoft SCOM 2007 from Mobile Admin:

  • System Center Operations Manager 2007 SP1 Client Tools
  • Operation Manager 2007 User Interface

You must install the SCOM Operations Console on the Mobile Admin server host to manage SCOM 2012.

Detection

Microsoft System Center Operation Manager is detected if a service named "omsdk" is found on a server.

Authentication

The Mobile Admin login credentials are used by default. Alternate credentials can be specified by clicking Change Credentials on the menu (from the Services screen of the SCOM Host).

Communication method

The .NET Operations Manager SDK is used for management.

Troubleshooting

The SCOM icon may not appear when the server is scanned because detecting the service takes greater privileges than managing SCOM. Open the host properties on the server with SCOM installed on it, and select Show All Services to force the icon to appear.

Manage Operations Manager

The first step in using the Operation Manager is to access the Operations Manager application.

To access the application, click the Operations Manager 2007 icon from a view of the Mobile Admin Manage Services screen or from a view of a server reached from the Mobile Admin Manage Hosts screen.

Receive Operations Manager notifications on your Mobile Admin dashboard

You can subscribe to the Operations Manager feed in order to automatically receive Mobile Admin notifications of any alerts or changes in the health states of the computers you manage with Operation Manager 2007.

To subscribe to the feed:

  1. From either a list of alerts or a list of computers with associated health states, select Subscribe to this feed....
  2. Enter a name for the feed, and a contact phone and URL, if desired.
  3. Click the Subscribe button or menu option, depending on your device.

Any filters applied to the list at the time of subscription will be applied by Mobile Admin when generating notifications.
