New features and improvements in KCT

Updated framework and user experience

Kiwi CatTools NG has been updated with a new version of .NET, providing superior performance and an enhanced user experience.

gRPC integration

KCT NG now integrates gRPC for secure communication with Windows Service.

Introduction of SQLite database

The legacy database has been migrated to SQLite.

Improved data encryption

KCT NG employs the AES-256 algorithm for data encryption.

Installation or upgrade

For new installations, you can download the installation file from the product page on https://www.solarwinds.com or from the Customer Portal.

For information about installing Kiwi CatTools, see the Kiwi CatTools Installation Guide.

Known issues

Activity saving error

Activity saving fails when the database is migrated from KCT 3.12.4 or earlier.

Resolution or workaround: Upgrade to KCT 3.12.5 or later before performing a fresh migration to KCT NG.

Password change shows failure message

The system may display a failure message during first-time password change after migration from older versions of KCT, even though the password has been updated.

Resolution or workaround: Close and reopen the application.

KCT NG shows as unlicensed after reinstallation

Installation may appear as unlicensed after reinstalling version 2026.2 due to deletion of license files from the Program Data directory.

Resolution or workaround: Open a support ticket to reset the license. The issue will not recur after reset.

KCT databases without password not supported for migration

Databases in KCT with a blank password are not supported for migration to KCT NG. KCT NG requires a password for all databases. Migrating databases without a password will render them inaccessible.

Resolution or workaround: Set a password for all databases in KCT prior to installing KCT NG. When logging in to KCT NG, provide the same password to ensure a successful migration.

  • If you accidentally proceed with the migration without setting a password in KCT, take the following steps:

    1. Close KCT NG and stop the KiwiCatToolsNG.UI process in Task Manager.

    2. Delete the migrated database from C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\CatTools\Database.

    3. Open KCT and navigate to File > Database > Change encryption key password. Set the password.

    4. Open KCT NG and enter the password from Step 3.

TFTP service

TFTP service and TFTP activity cannot run simultaneously on both KCT and KCT NG.

Resolution or workaround: Ensure TFTP service and activity is enabled and used in only one application at a time. Stop the TFTP service in KCT using the TFTP pane before enabling it in KCT NG. If needed, you can terminate TFTP manually using Command Line.

  1. Identify the TFTP Process ID (PID):

Open Command Prompt as an administrator. Run the following command to find the process listening on the TFTP port (UDP 69):

    netstat -ano | findstr :69

The expected outcome will provide the Process ID (PID) of the process listening on the TFTP port, with XXXX being the PID:

    UDP 0.0.0.0:69 *:* XXXX
  2. Terminate the Process:

Terminate the process identified in step 1 by running the following command:

    taskkill /PID XXXX /F
