Documentation forIP Address Manager
Managing IP addresses is a key capability of Hybrid Cloud Observability and is also available in a standalone module, IP Address Manager (IPAM). Hybrid Cloud Observability and IPAM are built on the self-hosted SolarWinds Platform.

Add a custom field

Custom fields in IPAM are similar to custom properties in the SolarWinds Platform and other products, except that they are used specifically in IPAM for IP addresses, groups, supernets, subnets, DHCP servers, and scope, and SNSA servers and zones.

The SolarWinds Custom Property Editor capabilities are not integrated with the SolarWinds IPAM module at this time.

To add a custom field for use in IPAM:

  1. Go to Settings > All Settings > IPAM Settings.
  2. Click Manage IPAM Custom Fields.

The Custom Fields page is displayed. Any custom fields that have already been created are displayed.

  3. Click Add.
  4. The Edit Custom Field page is displayed.
  5. Enter a name for this field in the Database column if you do not what to use the default column name. The name must be a single string without any spaces.
  6. (Optional) Enter a description.
  7. Select the field type:
    • Text: the field will contain plain text.
    • URL: the field will contain a hyperlink.
  8. Enter the maximum string length of a text field, or a link title if an URL.
  9. Select the areas of IPAM for which you want to use this field, and click Save.
  10. The Custom Fields page is displayed, listing the new field.

Once you have created a custom field, it will displayed in the Custom Fields section of the selected IPAM entity.
