DNS & WhoIs Resolver tool
Use the DNS & WhoIs Resolver tool in ETS for the Desktop to determine who owns or controls a domain name, network, or IP address. The tool retrieves information about domain names and IP addresses and then displays information about the specified host name or address.
Open the DNS & WhoIs Resolver tool

To launch the tool from the Toolset Launch Pad, locate the DNS & WhoIs Resolver tool and click Launch.

You can add the tool to a tab in the Workspace Studio, and access it from there.

To launch the tool from the Windows Start menu:

Click Start > All > SolarWinds Engineer's Toolset.

Right-click DNS & Who Is Resolver, click More, and click Run as administrator.

Resolve domain names or IP addresses

To find the IP address of a host or domain, enter any of the following in the Host name field:

Host name, for example,
Server-4orwww.solarwinds.com -
URL, for example,
http://solarwinds.com -
Email address, for example,
sales@solarwinds.com -
Domain name, for example,
yahoo.com -
Click Lookup Address to retrieve information about the host name or URL.

To find the host name or domain of a specific IP or network address, enter any of the following in the IP address field:
- IP address, for example,
206.67.58.195 - Network address, for example,
206.67.58.0 - Click Lookup Host name to retrieve the host name and other details about the address.

Specify WhoIs Servers
You can configure the tool to select a WhoIs server automatically, or designate a specific server to use.

Click File > Settings.

Clear Automatically determine the correct WhoIs Servers.

Enter the IP address or host name of the server you want to use, or select the WhoIs server from the list.

Click OK.
View a cache of resolved names
You can access a cache of all the host names and IP addresses resolved by the tool. When a host name or IP address is resolved, the DNS Resolver creates an HTML file containing all the discovered results and stores it in the DNS-Cache directory.

Browse to your installation directory.

Locate the DNS-Cache directory, and then view the HTML file named using your search parameter.
The DNS-Cache directory is cleared when the program is closed, so you should copy the files into another directory if you want to save them.
