Configure On Disconnect Lock Workstation in Dameware Mini Remote Control

The On Disconnect Lock Workstation setting in the Dameware Mini Remote Control agent determines whether the remote workstation is automatically locked when a remote session ends or disconnects. If a Mini Remote Control session that utilizes administrative privilege disconnects unexpectedly and the workstation is not locked, the local user could regain control of the machine while it is still in a privileged context. It is highly recommended that customers enable On Disconnect Lock Workstation on Mini Remote Control.

For instructions on how to enable On Disconnect Lock Workstation, see the following sections:

To enable using the Mini Remote Control agent settings:
  1. Open Mini Remote Control on the technician machine.

  2. In the host list, select the target machine.

  3. Open the target machine's Mini Remote Control agent settings.

  4. In the properties dialog, select the Install Options tab and click Configure.

  5. Select the Additional Settings tab and enable the On Disconnect Lock Workstation checkbox.

  6. Click OK to save the updated Mini Remote Control agent settings.

You must reinstall the Mini Remote Control agent to the target machine after saving the updated settings. The console stores these settings in the agent configuration, and the change is applied on the endpoint only when the Mini Remote Control agent is installed again.
To enable using Dameware Remote Support
  1. Open Dameware Remote Support.

  2. Connect to the target machine and open its remote registry.

  3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DameWare Development\Mini Remote Control Services\Settings.

  4. Find the On Disconnect Lock Workstation value and set it to 1.

  5. In Dameware Remote Support, open the target machine's Services view.

  6. Locate Dameware Mini Remote Control Service (DWRCS).

  7. Select Restart Service for the setting to take effect.

You can use the same approach for mass deployment with your existing software deployment or endpoint management system (e.g., Microsoft Configuration Manager): deploy the registry change and then restart the Mini Remote Control agent service on the target machines so the setting takes effect. You can also deploy the registry value using Group Policy Preferences with a Registry item and then apply it with a Group Policy update.
To enable using DWRCS.reg:

If you already use a DWRCS.reg file to deploy your preferred Mini Remote Control agent configuration, update the existing file rather than create a new configuration from scratch. This preserves the rest of the end user's existing Mini Remote Control agent settings.

  1. Open your existing DWRCS.reg file (originally located in the Mini Remote Control installation folder).

  2. Locate the following registry path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DameWare Development\Mini Remote Control Service\Settings.

  3. Find the On Disconnect Lock Workstation value and set it to 1.

  4. Save the updated DWRCS.reg file.

  5. Distribute the updated file using your standard deployment process.
