Custom properties are user-defined fields (such as country, building, asset tag, or serial number) that you can associate with monitored network objects.

You can change custom property definitions or values the property has for individual entities.

Edit custom property definitions (modern view)

You can change the definition of the custom property. For example, you can specify that a custom property must have a value or define values offered in a drop-down for a property.

  1. Log in to the SolarWinds Platform Web Console as an administrator.

  2. Click Settings > All Settings in the menu bar.

  3. In the Node & Group Management grouping, click Manage Custom Properties.

  4. Select the custom property to edit and Save the changes. Click Save and assign values to specify this property values for monitored entities.

Edit custom property values (modern view)

Change a custom property value for a monitored object. For example, if a device moves from Building B23 to A32, change the BuildingNr property.

  2. Click Settings > All Settings in the menu bar.

  3. In the Node & Group Management grouping, click Manage Custom Properties.

  4. Select the custom properties to edit and click Assign Values. Make sure you select properties for the same entity. This opens the Assign Values view.

  5. If the property is not on the Manage custom properties view:

    1. Select any property for the entity and click Assign Values. For example, to edit a custom property for nodes, select City (Entity type: Nodes).

    2. Now in Assign Values, click the three dots and select Add filter.

    3. In Add filter, select the property to edit values for and click Add filter. The selected properties are added to the table.

  6. To add or change a value for a property, enter the value into the field and click Save.

Custom property names should not contain restricted characters or reserved words. See List of reserved words in custom properties for details.

  7. To add the same value for multiple objects, select the objects, and click Edit Value(s). Select the property, enter the value, and click Save Changes.

  8. When you have added or edited the values, click Save Changes.
