License your SEM deployment
You can view your license information in the Settings window. To access, click the System icon in the toolbar and then select Manage License.
In the Manage license window, you can view, upgrade, activate, and deactivate your SEM license. If you do not have a license or your license is inactive, Activate license is displayed in the window. Only administrators can upgrade, activate, and deactivate a license.
There are two separate license types, universal and workstation, which allows you to multi-activate the needed amount of nodes for each license type. The universal license is the main license, which is needed to use SEM. The workstation license is treated as an add-on license, adding optional workstation seats so you can save universal license seats and activate the necessary amount of nodes per license type.
Both licenses can be deactivated separately, however, deactivating one of the legacy licenses that combined the two license types will deactivate both the universal and workstation licenses.

If you do not have a license key, click Purchase license key. SEM directs you to the available licensing options located on the SolarWinds website.
See SEM license activation to activate your license online or offline.
See Update the SEM license to update your license.
When you click Activate license, the Manage License form appears, displaying license information. If details are changed, the changes will be reflected across all licenses.
Here, you have the option to activate all available licenses, or only a specified number of licenses based on your needs.
License banners
Seven days prior to a license expiring, a banner appears, informing you of the upcoming license expiration. If you dismiss this banner, it will reappear after 24 hours.
If the universal license is missing, a banner appears and indicates the license is missing. This banner cannot be dismissed.
Troubleshooting
If any errors occur, try the following.
-
Clear your browser cache.
-
Open a new incognito window and try to reproduce the problem.
-
If you cannot open a new window, force reloading the page (Ctrl+F5).
-
You can also try opening the developer tools and right-click the Refresh button to empty your cache and perform a hard reload.
-
-
In your browser's developer tools, check Console for errors and Network for failed requests.
-
Perform the same operation through Flex UI.
-
If you cannot activate a license key that should be valid, check the license file and status directly on the SolarWinds licensing server.
