About upgrading to SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted
SolarWinds Observability is an on-premises product that runs on the SolarWinds Platform, which is an evolution of the Orion Platform.
Platform products 2022.3 and later run on the SolarWinds Platform. If you have licenses for platform product modules (such as NPM or SAM) that run on the SolarWinds Platform and you want to evaluate SolarWinds Observability, you can activate it with just a few clicks. There is no installation and no downtime. For instructions, see Install a new SolarWinds Platform product in an existing deployment. After the evaluation, you can complete the upgrade by applying a license key. Or you can deactivate SolarWinds Observability and return to your modules without any downtime or data loss.
If you have Orion Platform products 2020.2 and earlier, you can use the SolarWinds Platform Installer to upgrade to SolarWinds Observability. See Upgrade an existing deployment for considerations and instructions.
