Add a manufacturer and model

When you create an asset in Web Help Desk, you must select a manufacturer and model. This example shows how to create a manufacturer and a model. You will assign these to assets later in this guide.

Prerequisites

This is the third task in the process of configuring asset management. Before you start, complete the previous tasks:

Add a manufacturer and model

  1. On the toolbar, click Setup.
  2. Click Assets > Manufacturers & Models.
  3. Click New.

  4. Enter the full name of the manufacturer.

  5. Enter a short name that appends to model information in the Web Help Desk asset screens. For example, instead of Microsoft Corporation, you can enter Microsoft.

  6. Enter the contact information for this manufacturer.

  7. Enter the URL of the manufacturer's website.

  8. Click Save.

  9. Click the Model Editor tab.
  10. Click New.
  11. Enter the product model name. For example, iMac.

  12. (Optional) Click the drop-down menu and select a matching asset type that you created in Web Help Desk.

Selecting an asset type modifies the model drop-down menu in Web Help Desk screens to include only items from that asset type. This model will be assigned to this asset type.

You can set up asset custom fields at Setup > Assets > Asset Custom Fields. See Define the asset custom fields for details.
  13. Click the drop-down menu and select the default warranty for this model.

You can set up a warranty at Setup > Assets > Types > Warranty Types. See Define asset type, status, warranty, and lease information for details.
  14. (Optional) Click Add file to add an attachment that provides details about this model.

  15. Click Save.

  16. Repeat step 3 through step 15 to add additional models as needed.

Delete a manufacturer and model

  1. On the toolbar, click Setup > Assets > Manufacturers & Models.

  2. Select the checkbox next to each manufacturer you want to delete.

  3. Click Delete.
