Automatically restart Windows

This procedure applies to Windows Server 2012 and later.

  1. Log in to the WHD server as an administrator.
  2. Locate and open the Task Scheduler.
  3. In the Actions column, click Create Basic Task to start the Create a Basic Task Wizard.
  4. In the Name field, enter a descriptive task name (such as Restart Web Help Desk), and click Next.

  5. Select Daily, and click Next.
  6. Enter the trigger options.
    1. Select a Start date and time.
    2. Define how often the restart should occur.
    3. Click Next.
  7. Select Start a program, and click Next.
  8. In the Program/script field, enter:

    net

  9. In the Add arguments field, enter:

    stop webhelpdesk

  10. Click Next.
  11. Review the task name, trigger, and action details, and click Finish.

To create a second scheduled task to restart WHD, repeat the steps listed above.

Schedule the procedure to start at least one minute later than the stop command to ensure that the service has completely stopped before attempting to restart.
