Monitoring VoIP and network quality is a key capability of Hybrid Cloud Observability and is also available in a standalone module, VoIP & Network Quality Manager (VNQM). Hybrid Cloud Observability and VNQM are built on the self-hosted SolarWinds Platform.

SolarWinds VNQM licensing and deployment

SolarWinds VNQM has four license tiers and is licensed on the Network Service Assurance site level, the IP Phone level, and the node level.

The following license types are available:

  • SLA 5 – 5 Network Service Assurance sites, 300 IP Phones, and 40 nodes
  • SLA 25 – 25 Network Service Assurance sites, 1500 IP Phones, and 200 nodes
  • SLA 50 – 50 Network Service Assurance sites, 3000 IP Phones, and 400 nodes
  • SLA X – Unlimited Network Service Assurance sites, unlimited IP Phones, and 1000 nodes

Network Service Assurance source devices

Any Cisco device that is the source of a Network Service Assurance operation (for example, an ICMP Path operation) counts toward your license.

IP phones

Any active IP phone connected to your Cisco CallManager or Avaya Communications and Media Server when the network is polled counts toward your IP phone count. Phones can be registered or unregistered. Registered phones are connected, take precedence over unregistered phones, and count toward your license. Unregistered phones are disconnected and do not count toward your license. If you have more registered IP phones than licenses, only the latest registered phones, up to the number licensed, are monitored. Registered and unregistered phones after that number are not monitored.

Nodes

Any SNMP-enabled device that you monitor counts toward your node count. Each monitored call manager or active Network Service Assurance device consumes a node license. Each source node counts towards your node count, and in a bidirectional setup where a node is both a source and a target, they both count towards your license.

Licensing example

Your organization has the following: 4 Network Service Assurance enabled devices, 42 nodes, and 700 IP Phones. Under this scenario, if you select the SLA 5 license, not all of your nodes and phones would be under consistent management. The SLA 25 license would meet your need.
