SCM 1.0 Release Notes
Release date: September 18, 2018
These release notes describe the new features, improvements, and fixed issues in Server Configuration Monitor (SCM) 1.0. They also provide information about workarounds for known issues.
Features and improvements in SCM
Dynamic IIS configuration file monitoring
The out-of-the-box SCM profile for IIS is capable of dynamically identifying and monitoring all web.configs referenced in an applicationHost.config file. This allows you to dynamically track changes to all IIS sites' web.configs without having to identify each file individually.
Custom file and registry monitoring
Users can create custom lists (or "profiles") of files and registry entries to monitor for changes on Windows servers with an (Undefined variable: Core.WindowsAgent) deployed.
Identify a server's configuration at a particular date and time as the baseline configuration for that server. Compare the configuration at any date and time to the baseline to identify differences.
Line-by-line comparison of configuration items across time
View a side-by-side comparison of a server's configurations from any two points in time to see what has been added, removed, or changed. Drill down even further to see a line-by-line comparison of the configuration items' contents to quickly identify the exact changes that occurred and expedite troubleshooting.
New customer installation
For information about installing SCM, see the SolarWinds Orion Installer.
Fixed issues in Orion Platform 2018.2
SCM 1.0 runs on SolarWindsOrion Platform 2018.2. For information on features and improvements, and to learn more about additional changes not listed here that affect all Orion Platform products, see the Orion Platform 2018.2 release notes.
SCM polling is delayed if profiles are assigned before agent deployment
Issue: If an SCM profile is assigned to a node before the Orion Agent for Windows is deployed, configuration data is not immediately polled. It may take up to an hour before configuration data is shown.
Resolution/Work-around: Use the Poll Now button in the Management widget on the Node Details page to start polling immediately.
'Server configuration has changed and 'Server configuration differs from baseline' alerts not triggered in SCM
Issue: 'Server configuration has changed' and Server configuration differs from baseline' alerts are not triggered in SCM after profiles are unassigned and then re-assigned to the same node.
Resolution/Work-around: Restart the Orion Alerting Service to begin triggering these alerts again. The work-around for this issue is documented in the following KB article: 'Server configuration has changed' and 'Server configuration differs from baseline' alerts not triggered in SCM.
SCM configuration in PerfStack is not showing in the PerfStack resource summary view
Issue: SCM is set up to monitor for changes. User creates a PerfStack view to track SCM over time. When the PerfStack profile is added as a resource in a summary view, it is missing the SCM-specific charts.
