Documentation forServer Configuration Monitor
Monitoring server configurations is a key capability of Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and is also available in a standalone module, Server Configuration Monitor (SCM). Hybrid Cloud Observability Advanced and SCM are built on the self-hosted SolarWinds Platform.

Permissions required to monitor built-in Linux profiles in SCM

If all necessary commands are available, the default swiagent user can poll all profile elements. As read permission for users is set up for every monitored file, every user created in Linux can poll both profiles.

There are two types of profile elements:

  • File

  • Linux script

Unix operating systems have an "everything is a file" approach, and each file has its own permissions defined for owner, group, and user. All file type profile elements that poll files or folders directly have read permission set up for all three permission groups.

Linux script elements use several commands for retrieving information. They sometimes parse files, but all files have read permission for users.
