Import and export SAM templates

SAM integrates with the SolarWinds online IT community site, THWACK, so you can download the latest updates to SAM templates, download custom templates created by other SAM customers, and share templates that may be useful to other customers.

SolarWinds recommends that you check THWACK periodically for updates to SAM's out-of-the-box (OOTB) templates. With the exception of AppInsight templates, templates are not updated automatically during upgrades to avoid overwriting custom changes made to existing templates. Official updates to OOTB templates posted on THWACK are attributed to solarwinds_worldwide_llc.

When working with THWACK templates, note the following details:

  • You'll need a THWACK account to export and import templates into SAM. To create one, navigate to https://thwack.solarwinds.com.

Disclaimer: Any custom scripts or other content posted in THWACK are provided as a suggestion or recommendation to you for your internal use. • SolarWinds often posts SAM templates being developed for SAM to get customer feedback. While SolarWinds Support does not provide direct support for in-development templates, our product owners monitor these posts to answer questions and read your recommendations.
  • SolarWinds does not provide direct support for templates posted by third parties. If you have questions or suggestions for material posted by a member of the THWACK community, use the forum's built-in messaging functionality.
  • Be sure to provide THWACK credentials when importing and exporting, as prompted, not your Orion account credentials.
