FIPS compliance in SAM
You can run SAM in Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) mode to comply with computer security and interoperability standards used by non-military US government agencies and contractors.
If FIPS compliance is required, SolarWinds recommends enabling FIPS mode as part of a fresh install instead of as part of an upgrade. See Enable FIPS for SolarWinds Platform products in the SolarWinds Platform Administrator Guide.
The following SAM features behave differently if FIPS mode is enabled in the SolarWinds Platform:
- Container monitoring is not supported in FIPS mode. If you added containers before FIPS mode was enabled, delete container data and container services to stop polling. See Delete a container service in the SolarWinds Platform Administrator Guide.
- For IIS nodes monitored by AppInsight for IIS that are integrated with SolarWinds AppOptics, SAM stops retrieving metrics from the AppOptics API.
- JMX monitoring is disabled.
- The MAPI User Experience Monitor is disabled.
- The HTTPS Monitor uses only FIPS-compliant cryptography algorithms to establish TLS connections.
- Component monitors that are not FIPS compatible are skipped during polling.
