Documentation forSolarWinds Observability

Database widgets

Widgets contain information or status related to a specific monitored capability. Each widget shows a specific type of information collected from one or more observed entities. In the Entity Explorer, these widgets show data for the current entity shown in the entity details view. When the widget is included as part of a dashboard or area view, it could summarize the related data from multiple entities. If filters are applied or a time period is selected in the entity details view, the data in the widgets are filtered accordingly. See Entity Explorer and Entity details view.

When database instances are monitored, the data is displayed in the following widgets:

Number of Queries

Number of Queries shows the number of queries that were executed on the monitored database instances in the selected time period. Number of Queries gives you insight into the load of your monitored database instances.

Users

Users shows the number of active users for the monitored database instances in the selected time period. Gain insight into how many active user accounts there are across your monitored database instances to ensure optimal security and functionality.

Clients

Clients shows the number of clients for the monitored database instances in the selected time period. Gain insight into the active clients across your monitored databases to monitor your query load and assess your system performance.

Database Instance Health

Database Instance Health shows the health scores of your monitored database instances. The total number of database instances is shown in the center, with the number of Good, Moderate, and Bad database instances shown to the right of the display. Database instances are green if the health is good (70 -100), yellow if the health is moderate (40 - 69), and red (0 - 39) if the health is bad.

Click View All Databases to open the Entity Explorer filtered to your Databases.

Health Score

The Health Score indicates the overall health and performance of your database instance or instances. The health score displays as a percentage between 0% and 100% based on availability, query wait times and deadlock count.

A high health score indicates high availability and low query wait time with minimal errors and issues. A low health score indicates poor availability and high query wait times with errors and issues that should be resolved to improve the customer experience.

The widget is green if the health is good (70 -100), yellow if the health is moderate (40 - 69), and red (0 - 39) if the health is bad.

Health Score History

Health Score History shows the graph of health score values recorded over the selected time period.

Active Alerts

The Active Alerts widget shows how many active alerts are currently active for either all database instances or for the selected database instance. These are grouped into critical, warning or info categories. Be aware of any alerts in your monitored database instances to ensure optimal database performance.

Click View All Alerts to open the Alerts page for your monitored database instances.

Database Instances

Database Instances shows the count and type of database instances that you are monitoring with SolarWinds Observability. Database Instances are grouped by their type with each type represented by a different color.

Concurrency

Concurrency widget shows average concurrency for either all database instances or the specific database instance over the selected time period.

Concurrency is the total execution time of all queries which finished in a given second.

Concurrency History

The Concurrency History widget shows a graph of concurrency for either all database instances or a specific database instance over the selected time period.

Memory Utilization

The Memory Utilization widget shows a graph of memory utilization for the database instance over the selected time period.

Memory Utilization is the percentage of available memory that was in use over the selected time period.

Throughput

The Throughput widget shows average throughput for either all database instances or the specific database instance over the selected time period.

Throughput is the number of queries that finished executing per second.

Throughput History

The Throughput History widget shows a graph of average throughput for either all database instances or a specific database instance over the selected time period.

Disk Throughput

The Disk Throughput widget shows throughput per disk for the monitored database instance over the selected time period.

Network Throughput

The Network Throughput widget shows throughput across the network for the monitored database instance over the selected time period.

CPU Utilization

The CPU Utilization widget shows the CPU Usage for the monitored database instance over the selected time period.

CPU Utilization is the percentage of time that all available processors were used to dispatch the workload.

Average Latency

The Average Latency widget shows average latency for either all database instances or the specific database instance over the selected time period.

Latency is the amount of time in milliseconds taken per disk I/O operation.

Latency History

The Latency History widget shows a graph of average latency times for either all database instances or a specific database instance over the selected time period.

Error Rate

The Average Error Rate widget shows the average error rate for either all database instances or the specific database instance over the selected time period.

Average Error Rate is the number of error(s) that occurred in a given second.

Error Rate History

The Error Rate History widget shows a graph of error rates for either all database instances or a specific database instance over the selected time period.

Queries

The 10 most, or 5 most time consuming queries are displayed, showing details of each. Queries displays the full query text, total time, and query details for each of the 20 recorded queries. Click the Query Details icon to the right of a query to open the Queries Overview for that query.

Instances

The Instances tab displays a list of your database instances and their corresponding health scores. This view lets you easily identify database instances with low health scores that need your attention.
