Documentation forNetFlow Traffic Analyzer
Analyzing network traffic and bandwidth is a key capability of SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted (formerly Hybrid Cloud Observability) and is available in the Advanced edition. NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) is also available in a standalone module.

Domain filtered view

Using the Flow Navigator, you can customize a filter that will allow you to display network traffic connected with a specified domain of origin or destination.

NTA resolves domain names based on the appropriate IP address. Over time, an IP address can be associated with multiple domain names. For example, if a domain is hosted on more servers as described in this THWACK thread.

If the currently valid domain name is not resolved and saved NTA, you cannot use it in the filter. NTA informs you about it and asks you to provide a valid name. For more information about resolving domain names, see Host and Domain Names.

  1. Click My Dashboards > NetFlow > NTA Summary.
  2. Click Flow Navigator on the left edge of the summary view. The Flow Navigator is available on any default NTA view.
  3. Specify the View Type:
    1. Click Detail, and then select Domain.
    2. Select the Node for which you want to monitor network traffic attributed to a domain.

If you select a node here, you can specify only Ingress or Egress for the Flow direction. Selecting Both results in applying the flow direction default for the appropriate view.

    3. If you want to further limit the view, specify the Interface for which you want to monitor network traffic attributed to a domain.
    4. Specify the appropriate domain.
  4. Select the Time Period over which you want to view network traffic connected with the specified domain.

  5. Select a Flow Direction.

  6. You can also further limit the view by including or excluding some of the following items:
  7. Click Submit.
  8. If you want to save your custom filtered view for future reference, click Save Filtered View to Menu Bar.
