Monitoring network performance is a key capability of SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted (formerly Hybrid Cloud Observability) and is available in the Essentials edition. Network Performance Monitor (NPM) is also available in a standalone module.

Configure services for receiving Syslog and trap messages

Receiving Syslog and Trap messages on the SolarWinds Platform server requires that you configure the services.

Start the Syslog service

Before you can view Syslog messages in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console, you must confirm that the SolarWinds Syslog service on your SolarWinds Platform server has been started.

  1. Click Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.
  2. Locate the SolarWinds Syslog Service in the list, and check its status.
  3. If the status is anything other than Started, right‑click SolarWinds Syslog Service, and click Start.

Start trap services

Before you can view trap messages in the SolarWinds Platform Web Console, you must confirm that the required trap services on your SolarWinds Platform server are started.

  1. Start Services through Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools.
  2. Locate the SolarWinds Trap Service in the list, and check its status.
  3. If the status is not Started, right‑click SolarWinds Trap Service, and click Start.
