Manage Microsoft IIS with Mobile Admin

This section provides information about how to use the Mobile Admin Client to manage Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). Please note that all the procedures in this chapter assume that you are logged in to Mobile Admin and that you have selected an IIS server to manage from your list of hosts.

Detection

IIS is detected if a service named w3svc is found on the server.

Authentication

Either the Mobile Admin login credentials or credentials specified in a "Change Credentials" operation are used to manage IIS.

Communication method

IIS is managed using Active Directory Domain Services operations.

Manage the IIS application

You can manage the IIS application in Mobile Admin for the server you have selected. From the Mobile Admin Manage Services screen or from a view of a server reached from the Mobile Admin Manage Hosts screen, click the Internet Information Services icon. The IIS home screen will appear.

Restart IIS

From the IIS home screen, click Restart IIS on the menu.

Restore the IIS configuration from a backup

  1. From the IIS home screen, click Restore Configuration on the menu.
  2. Select the backup configuration that you want to use to restore IIS.
  3. On the menu, click Restore.

Manage websites

View the list of websites

From the IIS home screen, select the Web Sites folder.

View the virtual directories for a website

  1. From the IIS home screen, select the Web Sites folder.
  2. Select a web site from the list to view that site's virtual directories.

Stop, start, pause, and resume a website

To stop, start, pause, or resume a web site, From the list of virtual directories for the website that you want to manage:

To stop a web site, click Stop on the menu.

To start a stopped web site, click Start on the menu.

To pause a web site, click Pause on the menu.

To resume a paused web site, click Resume on the menu.

View or change a website description

  1. From the list of virtual directories for the web site whose description you would like to view/change:
  2. On the menu, click Properties.
  3. To change the web site description, type the new text in the Description field. On the menu, click Save.

Manage application pools

View an application pool

  1. From the IIS home screen, select the Application Pools folder.
  2. Select the application pool that you want to view applications for.

Stop, start, or recycle an Application Pool

  1. From the application pool that you want to stop, start, or recycle:
  2. Click Stop on the menu to stop it.
  3. Click Start on the menu to start it.
  4. Click Recycle on the menu to recycle it.

Manage virtual directories

View subdirectories in a virtual directory

  1. From the IIS home screen, select the Web Sites folder.
  2. Select the web site that you want to view virtual directories for.
  3. Select to the virtual directory that you would like to view subdirectories for.

View or change virtual directory properties

  1. Open the list of subdirectories in the virtual directory that you want to view properties for.
  2. Click Properties on the menu.
  3. To edit virtual directory properties, make the desired changes and click Save on the menu.

View or editing document settings for a virtual directory

  1. Open the list of subdirectories in the virtual directory that you want to view or edit document settings for.
  2. Click Properties on the menu.
  3. On the menu, click Documents.
  4. To edit document settings, make the desired changes and click Save on the menu.

Point a virtual directory to a network share

  1. Open the list of subdirectories in the virtual directory that you want to point to a network share.
  2. Click Properties on the menu.
  3. On the menu, click Change to a Network Share.

Point a virtual directory to a local directory

  1. Open the list of subdirectories in the virtual directory that you want to point to a local directory.
  2. Click Properties on the menu.
  3. On the menu, click Change to a Local Directory.

Redirecting a Virtual Directory to a URL

  1. Open the list of subdirectories in the virtual directory that you want to redirect to a URL.
  2. Click Properties on the menu.
  3. On the menu, click Change to a URL Redirect.

Manage FTP sites

View a list of FTP sites and virtual directories

  1. From the IIS home screen, select the FTP Sites folder.
  2. To view virtual directories on an FTP site, select the FTP site that you want to view virtual directories for.

Stop, start, pause, and resume an FTP site

From a view of the virtual directories for the FTP site that you want to stop, start, pause, or resume, perform one of the following actions:

To stop an FTP site, click Stop on the menu.

To start a stopped FTP site, click Start on the menu.

To pause an FTP site, click Pause on the menu.

To resume a paused FTP site, click Resume on the menu.
