Manage Microsoft DNS with Mobile Admin
This section provides information about how to use the Mobile Admin Client to manage Microsoft Domain Name System (DNS) servers.
The procedures in this section assume you are logged in to Mobile Admin and have selected a DNS server manager from your server list.
Detection
The Mobile Admin sever will detect if the DNS service is running on the selected host.
Authentication
The Mobile Admin login credentials are used when managing DNS.
Communication method
Windows Management Instrumentation is used to manage DNS.
View DNS information, manage zones, and add records
Clear the server cache
- From the Mobile Admin Manage Services screen or from a view of a server reached from the Mobile Admin Manage Hosts screen, click the DNS icon.
- On the menu, click Clear Cache.
Scavenge stale resource records
From a view of the DNS screen, click Scavenge Stale Records on the menu.
Forward and reverse lookup zones
From a view of the DNS screen, select Forward Lookup Zones or Reverse Lookup Zones.
Subdomain and resource records within a zone
From a view of either the forward or reverse lookup zones, select the zone that you want to view subdomains and resource records for.
Subdomain and Resource Records within a Subdomain
- From a view of either the forward of reverse lookup zones, select the zone that you want to view subdomains and resource records for.
- If required, select the subdomain you want to view subdomains and resource records for.
Reload a zone
- From a view of the forward or reverse lookup zones, select the zone that you want to reload.
- On the menu, click Reload Zone.
Pause a zone and resume a paused zone
- From a view of the forward or reverse lookup zones, select the zone that you want to reload.
- On the menu, click Pause Zone.
- To resume a paused zone, select the zone you want to resume and click Start Zone on the menu.
Add a new record (A, CNAME, MX and PTR)
- From a view of the forward or reverse lookup zones, select the zone that you want to add a record for.
- On the menu, click New Record.
- Select the type of record you want to create.
- After entering the appropriate information, select Save on the menu.

View, edit, and delete record properties (all types)
- From a view of the forward or reverse lookup zones, select the zone that you want to view, delete, or edit record properties for.

Select the record that you want to view or change.
If you wish to delete this record select Delete from the options menu.
- To edit the record's properties do one the following listed in the table below and click Save.
