Manage BlackBerry Enterprise Server with Mobile Admin

This section provides information about how to use the Mobile Admin Client to manage a BlackBerry Enterprise Server and the Mobile Data Service (MDS).

All procedures in this chapter assume that you are logged in to Mobile Admin and that you have selected a server that has a BlackBerry Enterprise Server to manage from your Manage Hosts list, or selected the BlackBerry Enterprise service from the Manage Services list.

Detection

The BlackBerry Enterprise Server is detected if a service named Blackberry Serve" is found.

Authentication

Mobile Admin will prompt you for your Blackberry Resource Kit credentials.

Communication method

The Blackberry Resource Kit is used for management.

Troubleshooting

The Blackberry Resource Kit tools can be run in a command window.

Manage BlackBerry Enterprise Server

You can manage BlackBerry Enterprise Server with Mobile Admin on your selected server.

View the BlackBerry Enterprise Servers

Use this procedure to view a list of BlackBerry Enterprise Servers associated with the MA server you have selected, and to view details for a specific BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance. Details include:

  • Server and Server Relay Protocol (SRP) status
  • Number of users
  • Number of forwarded, sent, pending, filtered and expired emails
  • Display indicating that MDS is enabled

From the Mobile Admin Manage Services screen or from a view of a server reached from the Mobile Admin Manage Hosts screen, click the BlackBerry Manager icon. The BlackBerry Servers on your selected server are displayed.

To view details for a specific BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance, select the server.

Stop the Mobile Data Service

  1. In the Blackberry Enterprise Servers list, select the server where you want to stop MDS.
  2. In the menu, click Stop Mobile Data Service.

If you decide to stop MDS on BlackBerry Enterprise Server associated with your device, you cannot start MDS from the device after you have stopped it. You must manually restart it on the BlackBerry Enterprise server or with a device running Mobile Admin associated with another BlackBerry Enterprise server.

Restart the Mobile Data Service

  1. In the Blackberry Enterprise Servers list, select the server that needs MDS restarted.
  2. In the menu, click Restart Mobile Data Service.
    If you are about to restart MDS on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server that your device is currently associated with, Mobile Admin will be temporarily unavailable.

Enable and disable the Mobile Data Service for a user

  1. In the Blackberry Enterprise Servers list, select the server that manages the targeted user.
  2. In the menu, click Users and select the user that needs MDS enabled or disabled.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • To enable MDS, click Enable Mobile Data Service.
    • To disable MDS, click Disable Mobile Data Service.

Manage users

You can manage BlackBerry users on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server with Mobile Admin.

View users and user details

  1. In BlackBerry Enterprise Server, click List users.
  2. Select the targeted user.

Search for a user

  1. In BlackBerry Enterprise server, click Find users.
  2. In the User Name field, enter the name of the user.
    You can enter any part of the name or all of the user’s name. You must enter enough of the name that the system will be able to recognize it as unique to the user you are attempting to identify.

Adding and Deleting Users

  1. In the user list associated with BlackBerry Enterprise Server, do one of the following:
    1. To add a user, click Add on the menu. Complete the information fields presented.
    2. To delete a user, click Delete on the menu.

Clearing User Statistics

You can only perform this procedure on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0.

  1. In the Blackberry Enterprise Servers list, select the user whose statistics you want to clear.
  2. On the menu, click Clear Stats.

Lock a wireless device and set a new password

You can only perform this procedure on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0. Use this procedure to lock a wireless device and set a new user password that must be entered to unlock it. When you lock a device, no information or functionality on the device can be accessed until the new user password is entered.

  1. In the list of users associated with BlackBerry Enterprise Server, select the user whose device you want to lock and reset the password for.
  2. On the menu, click Set Password and Lock.
  3. Complete the information fields and click Save.

Setting the owner Information to be Displayed on a Wireless Device

You can only perform this procedure on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0.

  1. In the list of users associated with BlackBerry Enterprise Server, select the user who you want to set owner information for.
  2. On the menu, click Set Owner Info.
  3. Complete the information fields and click Save on the menu.

Kill a Device

You can only perform this procedure on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0. When you kill a device, all data on the device is erased, including Mobile Admin login information, and the device is disabled.

  1. In the list of users associated with BlackBerry Enterprise Server, select the user whose wireless device you want to kill.
  2. In the menu, click Kill Handheld.

Setting an Activation Password

You can only perform this procedure on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0.

  1. In the list of users associated with BlackBerry Enterprise Server, select the user for whom you want to set an activation password.
  2. In the menu, click Set Activation Password.
  3. Complete the information fields, and click Save.
