LA 2020.2.5 Release Notes
Release Date: March 25, 2021
These release notes describe the features in Log Analyzer (LA), formerly Log Manager for Orion, 2020.2.5. They also provide information about upgrades and describe workarounds for known issues.
New in LA 2020.2.5
LA 2020.2.5 is a service release that includes performance enhancements and the bug fixes listed below.
In RC 2020.2.5, data collection for Windows Events and Log Files may stop after approximately 15 hours. A Polling Service restart is required.
Additional features
LA 2020.2.5 is an Orion Platform product, and runs on Orion Platform 2020.2.5.
Trigger threshold
The rule action for any type of log is suppressed until a specific number of messages arrives.
Trap macros in alerts
Add specific information using trap macros as variables for alerts.
Duplicate rules
Single rules can be duplicated in order to move between policies, create similar rules, etc.
Flood protection
Set a time interval in which rule actions will not be triggered again.
Time window
Set a specific time window in which rules will stay active.
Run external actions
Set a specific Windows account to execute the Run External Program action.
UI improvements
Rule lists now include the order of execution and all LA settings are consolidated into one central location. Processing for queued incoming messages has improved. Improved stability of event ingestion and memory consumption optimization is expected.

Before you upgrade
If you are adding LA 2020.2.5 to your existing Orion Platform products, make note of the following:
- LA 2020.2.5 requires Microsoft SQL Server 2016 SP1 or later. See the system requirements for details.
- LA 2020.2.5 does not support data migration of existing rules and alerts.
Legacy syslog and traps
LA replaces the existing legacy syslog and trap services. After installation of LA over the legacy syslog and trap services, the records remain in the database, but will not be used by LA. You can still access the read-only legacy records in the Syslog Viewer and Traps Viewer applications. All new syslog and trap messages will be stored in the dedicated LA database.
How to upgrade
Use the SolarWinds Orion Platform Installer to upgrade one or more Orion Platform products simultaneously.
If you are upgrading from LA 1.1.1 or later, you can upgrade your entire Orion Platform deployment, including the main server and all Orion Platform products, from the Settings > My Orion Platform Deployment page. Downloading the Orion Platform Installer is no longer necessary.
New customer installation
Use the SolarWinds Orion Platform Installer, available in the Customer Portal, to install LA. After installation, refer to the LA Getting Started Guide to learn about configuring and customizing LA.
