Get started

To get started with ipMonitor, complete the following tasks:

Configure the System settings to address how ipMonitor operates with your environment and external resources.

Scan your network and select the monitors.

The Express Discovery scan runs automatically during First Run mode to scan your network, locate and select the hardware and software components you want to monitor, and apply the appropriate monitors to the application. This scan assists you with adding commonly-used monitors for your software and hardware components.

Set up the dashboard.

Set up your dashboard with the widgets that provide an at-a-glance view of your network.

Run the configuration program.

After you set up the dashboard, run the ipMonitor configuration program.

Set up the ipMonitor accounts.

Add the administrator user, and guest accounts. When you are finished, enable guest login.

Assign a Windows account to run the ipmonitorsrv service.

When you assign a Windows account to host the ipmonitorsrv service, decide whether to host the service by creating a new Windows account or using the LocalSystem account.

Connect ipMonitor to your network.

  1. Assign one or more IP address and port combinations to ipMonitor to enable ipMonitor communications using the HTTP and HTTPS protocols.
  2. Configure the SNMP Trap Listener to listen for incoming SNMP traps.
  3. Connect ipMonitor to the network components that will communicate with the application.

Install an SSL certificate.

See Install an SSL certificate or generate a self-signed certificate. After you install the certificate, configure ipMonitor to listen for HTTPS traffic.

Create alerts to notify you when problems occur in your deployment—for example, when a predefined threshold is passed or a connection failure occurs.

See Create an alert.

(Optional) Change the start page to open a different screen when you log in to ipMonitor.
Activate the ipMonitor license after you evaluate the product.
